Baxters Food Group is delighted to support social mobility charity, Career Ready, welcoming two interns to Fochabers on a work experience programme.
Adam and Alex, who recently started sixth year at Elgin High School and Milne’s Academy respectively, joined Baxters recently for a four-week work placement. During their time with the business they will undertake a variety of different tasks within the NPD (New Product Development) and Thermal Process departments, with learning sessions arranged across each of the different departments that feed into the ‘concept to product’ process.
Career Ready helps young people across Scotland by pairing them with an individual mentor from the world of work over a two-year period. The role of the mentor is to provide support as the mentee gains valuable skills and experience to help prepare them for the future beyond school.
As a major local employer, Baxters was keen to get involved. HR Business Partner, Lisa Wood, took on the role of Career Ready Employer Coordinator, engaging Diane Harper, European Payroll, Tax, AP & AR Manager, and Susie Irwin, Head of Technical, as mentors.
Diane and Susie were paired with Adam and Alex last October and have been following the Career Ready programme with them since then. This has involved regular meetings and sessions on practical skills, such as creating a CV and interview techniques.
Commenting on her role as a mentor, Susie Irwin said: “Career Ready is a fantastic way for young people to engage with employers and experience a real working environment. We hope the skills Adam and Alex develop over the course of the programme will be a huge benefit to them in the future. Diane and I are both thoroughly enjoying supporting them through the process and look forward to seeing their progression.”
We wish Adam and Alex all the best and look forward to finding out more about their experience at Baxters as their internships progress.
